Pre-Treatment Care (Before Your PicoWay Laser Appointment)
To ensure safe, effective treatment and reduce the risk of complications:
- Avoid sun exposure — No direct sunlight, tanning beds, or self-tanners for 2–4 weeks before treatment. Tanned or sunburned skin increases risks and reduces results.
- Stop irritating skincare products — Discontinue retinol, Retin-A (tretinoin), AHAs (glycolic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C serums, and exfoliants 5–7 days prior.
- Medications & supplements — Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, garlic, ginkgo, and ginseng for 7 days before treatment (consult your doctor if prescribed for medical reasons).
- Arrive with clean skin — Come to your appointment with freshly cleansed skin. Do not wear makeup, lotions, creams, sunscreen, perfume, or deodorant on the treatment area.
- Hydrate — Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session for optimal skin response.
- Other treatments — Avoid Botox, fillers, chemical peels, microneedling, waxing, or other lasers 2 weeks before and after.
- Herpes history — If you have a history of cold sores, inform us in advance — we may prescribe an antiviral medication.
Post-Treatment Care (After Your PicoWay Laser Session)
PicoWay has minimal downtime — most clients experience only mild redness or a slight sunburn-like sensation for a few hours to 1–2 days.
- Sun protection is critical — Strictly avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ (or higher) every 2 hours when outdoors and make it part of your daily routine.
- Gentle cleansing — Cleanse the treated area twice daily with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free cleanser. Pat dry — do not rub.
- Moisturize — Apply a gentle, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free moisturizer several times a day to keep skin hydrated and comfortable.
- Makeup & products — Avoid makeup for the first 24 hours. Do not use retinoids, acids, exfoliants, or irritating products for 5–7 days.
- Avoid heat & sweat — No saunas, hot showers, steam rooms, vigorous exercise, or activities that cause sweating for 24–48 hours.
- Cool comfort — Use cold compresses (wrapped in a clean cloth) for 10–15 minutes if you feel warmth or mild swelling.
- Hands off — Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area. Let any micro-crusting or flaking resolve naturally.
- Expected side effects — Mild redness, tiny dark spots (as pigment rises to the surface), or a “sandpaper” texture may occur and usually fade within a few days.
