The CoolPeel setting on the Tetra CO₂ laser offers skin rejuvenation with minimal downtime. Patients typically experience mild redness, similar to a sunburn, for a day or two post-treatment, but this usually doesn’t interfere with daily activities. In contrast, other CO₂ laser settings may necessitate a brief recovery period. Once we develop your personalized treatment plan, we’ll provide detailed information on what to expect during recovery. With its versatile settings, the CO₂ laser can be tailored to accommodate various lifestyles and needs.
At our practice, patient safety is our top priority. We offer treatments that have been thoroughly vetted to meet our stringent standards for safety and effectiveness. While all medical procedures carry some level of risk, CO₂ laser treatments are considered safe and effective when performed by experienced providers on carefully selected patients.
We can combine your laser treatment with other procedures, including Botox, dermal fillers, and facial surgeries separated by one to two weeks.
Treatment durations with the Tetra CO₂ laser vary based on the specific procedure and areas addressed. Most sessions are completed in under an hour. A full-face CoolPeel treatment typically takes 30 minutes.
Pre and Post Operative Care
Pre-Care Instructions for CoolPeel Treatment
- Avoid sun exposure (2–4 weeks ideally)
- Suspend Accutane® (4–6 months)
- No aspirin (7 days)
- Discuss considerations and contraindications
- Confirm there are no exclusionary criteri
- Review relevant patient history
- Complete consent form
- Set proper expectations
- Take pre-treatment photos
- Start prophylactic treatment for those with a history of viral infection/cold sores
- For patients prone to hyperpigmentation, consider pre-treating with a melanin-suppressing agent 2× daily for 2 weeks (or an appropriate length of time) before treatment
Post Treatment Care: Mild (CoolPeel)
Swelling, redness, and a mild to moderate sunburn sensation are common post treatment and should be expected.
Mild and traditional CoolPeel treatments (1 – 3 days):
- Immediately after treatment, consider using a SubZ or Zimmer Chiller to help remove any excess heat.
- A cool compress may be used, especially in the periorbital area, to help minimize excessive inflammation.
- For CoolPeel treatments, once the heat has dissipated, consider using a light skin care product that may be mildly occlusive (hyaluronic acid, or a cream-based non-stinging moisturizer).
- Keep the area moisturized until the sandpaper texture resolves.
- If burning is noted for more than a few minutes after applying the product, wash off with a mild cleanser, rinse with cold water, and notify your provider.
Day 2 – 5+, as directed:
- Wash the treatment area with cool water and mild soap/gentle cleanser, then blot dry (AM and PM).
- Do not scrub the treated area.
- Apply post-treatment products (and/or ointment) as directed.
- After applying the product, if burning is noted for more than a few minutes, notify your provider.
- Do not use any topical products that have not been discussed with the provider.
- Reapply every 3 – 4 hours or as needed to maintain a moist environment.
Additional guidelines:
- Avoid exercise, sweating, excessive heat, saunas, hot tubs, etc. (2 – 4 days).
- Avoid the use of scrubs/exfoliants (5 – 10 days).
- Minimize exposure to pets and objects that may contain pet dander.
- Do not allow pets to lick the treated area.
- Wash your hands frequently and avoid touching the treated area.
- Avoid sun exposure to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
- 24+ hours post treatment, use sunblock with Zinc and/or Titanium.
- Minimize alcohol intake to help limit bruising and other complications.
- To lessen potential swelling, sleep with your head slightly elevated (use one extra pillow).
- Use a clean pillowcase and change it frequently.
- Mineral makeup may be applied a few days after treatment.
